Ben Stokes’ late-night brawl in Bristol has been grabbing all the attention. Both Stokes and Alex Hales have been suspended for the final fixture as well. The duo has some scrutinizing eyes on them, but for the wrong reasons. Stokes and Hales have had an absolutely sensational 2017 as far as numbers are concerned. The altercation outside a pub in Bristol has hampered their reputation and we might not see them in the English uniform for an extended period. The English Cricket Board now has some severe decisions to make before the team travels to Australia for the Ashes.

The West Indies started off their tour to England in the most bizarre manner possible. They were trounced in the first test at Birmingham. An innings defeat there. A serious thrashing for the rest of the series was certain. At Leeds, the same squad that couldn’t put bat to ball in the first test chased 322 with ease. They were again found wanting in the third test, eventually losing the test series 2-1.

The Windies have a marginally better One-day squad. Also, the shorter formats of the game are more closely contested. Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels returned to the squad to strengthen their unit to avoid relegation from direct qualification for the World Cup 2019.  Their fate was sealed after the third game. They have to play the qualifiers to find a spot at the coveted event.

The fourth ODI saw a complete revamp. Evin Lewis played the innings of his life and captain Jason Holder’s fifty helped them score 356/5. Alzarri Joseph became the youngest West Indian to pick a 5-for. The team finished second best but it was this rugged display the world was wanting to see from the Caribbean unit.

Variations in performances are seen but the Windies’ graph will by far be the most volatile. If they’re willing to challenge the best consistency is all they require.

Lewis’ 176 was the second century by a West Indian batsman since the 2015 World Cup. The previous hundred was also scored by Lewis.(148 against Sri Lanka)

Lewis’ 176 was the highest score by a batsman retiring hurt. The previous best was 163* by Sachin Tendulkar.

Moeen Ali’s strike rate this year is a staggering 148.88. The best for any batsman scoring more than 100 runs.

Joe Root is 46 away from becoming the tenth England batsman to score 4000 ODI runs. The fastest England batsman to reach the 4000 run mark was Graham Gooch. In 108 innings. Root will be 17 innings quicker.

West Indies will play the 5th ODI without skipper Jason Holder and Evin Lewis. Holder has returned to his hometown to attend his uncle’s funeral while the opener will be out with a fractured ankle. Jason Mohammad is expected to lead the Windies in the final ODI. Kyle Hope and Devendra Bishoo are the likely replacements.

For England, Joe Root and Chris Woakes are reckoned to be rested for the dead rubber. Tom Curran and Dawid Malan might feature in the playing eleven.

PROBABLE XI (ENGLAND): Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Eoin Morgan(c), Jos Buttler(wk), Sam Billings, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, Jake Ball, Tom Curran.

PROBABLE XI (WEST INDIES): Chris Gayle, Kyle Hope, Shai Hope(wk), Marlon Samuels, Jason Mohammad(c), Rovman Powell, Ashley Nurse, Devendra Bishoo, Alzarri Joseph, Jerome Taylor, Miguel Cummins.

ENG vs WI 5th ODI DREAM11: The choices for the 5th ODI aren’t as tough as the other games. Stokes, Hales, Holder, Lewis, Root, and Woakes are the players to miss out the final contest. Jos Buttler will bat at number 5. Choosing him as captain/vice-captain wouldn’t be a bad pick. Curran and Jake Ball might be uncommon picks and they’re potential point earners.

Wicket-keeper: Jos Buttler(c)

Batsmen: Chris Gayle(vc), Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, Jason Mohammad, Jonny Bairstow.

All-rounders: Moeen Ali

Bowlers: Alzarri Joseph, Adil Rashid, Jake Ball, Miguel Cummins.
